A 4 ½ year old girl was playing in the backyard of a home in Decatur (Atlanta suburb), Georgia – it was her own backyard. When a neighbor saw the child on her own, she asked the girl where she lived. The girl answered by pointing to her house, about 50 feet away! The neighbor did not check with the girl’s parents, but, instead contacted DFCS (CPS in Georgia), reporting the child’s parents for neglect, expressing concerns about the “unsupervised child.” When the cops became involved, they ensured the parents that they had not broken any laws in their state. In fact, they thought that the situation was a “ridiculous waste of their time.”
